Claire Edna Haggerty (Meldrum), 81, of Holliston passed away after a period of declining health on August 10, 2022, leaving behind her husband Paul; sister Jean Guenthner (Meldrum); daughter Cathleen; sons Michael (deceased), Stephen and John; and grandchildren Anneke, Mia, Ryan, Bridgit, Amelia, and Kiera.

Claire was born and raised in Boston where she attended Girls Latin School, Emmanuel College, and began a life in education, service and advocacy. She earned a Master of Education, taught English at Holliston High School for over twenty years and was an active member of her church and town community. On retirement, she dedicated herself to volunteer work, tutoring adults seeking their GED and founding the Parent Connection at Beth Israel Hospital. As a teacher, she set an example of commitment, preparedness and responsibility; many students still speak of her positive influence and tough love.

Claire had many blessings: a devoted family; a large and loyal group of friends; an ability to devour a heavy book in a single day; an enduring fascination with the life and art of Van Gogh; quirky cats; an irrepressible drive to work and serve; and a passion for fairness.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visiting Hours on Saturday, August 13th, 2022, 3:00- 6:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St., Holliston, MA 01746.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Claire may be made to FamilyPromiseMetroWest.org, where she served as a volunteer and which helps families with children facing homelessness.
