Holliston-

Catherine “Kay” Hamlet, 96, of Holliston, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Timothy Daniel’s House in Holliston. Born in Holliston, she was the daughter of the late Ovila H. and Angeline (Lizotte) Demers. She was the wife of 77 years to Edwin Hamlet of Holliston.

Kay was a member of St. Mary’s Church and was a past member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s Guild. She was employed many years ago at the Bread Basket in Holliston and J.C. Penney’s in Framingham. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Senior Center and at Cole Court. Kay and Ed were wonderful waltzers and were known by many as the “old smoothies” of Holliston. Being born the same year, they were in the same school grades. In 1933, Ed asked Kay on their first date to a dance held at the Holliston Town Hall. They were married at St. Mary’s by Fr. Reardon in 1935.

Besides her husband, Kay is survived by her children, Shirley M. Chipman of Holliston and her late husband Thomas; Edwin E. Hamlet and his wife Susan of Swanton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by a son, Darrel E. Hamlet husband of Annette LaRosee; and siblings, Ernest P. Demers, Ernestine M. Lord and Eleanor M. Annantuonio.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11th from 4-7p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of Holliston. Burial will follow in Lake Grove Cemetery in Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holliston Senior Center, 159 Goulding St. Holliston, MA 01746.
