Bruce McKinnon of Millis passed away unexpectedly but peacefully Monday, September 18,2017 at the VA Campus in West Roxbury with his family by his side. Bruce was born in Southbridge, MA. June 22,1946 to Wilhelmina Carmichael and John E. McKinnon.
Bruce was an Army veteran serving as a Sergeant with the Fourth Armored Division in Germany. He was a retired 20 year veteran of the Holliston Police Department, becoming the first detective on the force, and was a youth officer instrumental in creating the DARE program in Holliston. Bruce was a member of the Tri-County Drug Task Force, responsible for the seizure and prosecution of $30 million in drugs and property.
Bruce is survived by his three sisters, Marijane Davock and her husband Joe of Parsonsfield, ME., Penelope Thumith and her partner Rick Gilde of East Boothbay, ME., Thomasine Piché and her husband Bruce of Kittery, ME., and brother in law Stanley Goldberg. He leaves behind 12 nieces and nephews, 27 great nieces and nephews who absolutely adored him, as well as his extended family, Theresa Corbett, Joey Rossini and Fred and Rose Bellacqua and countless friends.Bruce was predeceased by his older brother John E. McKinnon and wife Mary, and his brother in law Kenward Thumith.
Private services will be held with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests instead that donations be made to the MICU VA Hospital West Roxbury Campus, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA. 02132.
