Betty Ann Smith, 83, formerly of Holliston, Ashland and Centerville, Massachusetts went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2010. She passed away at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey, surrounded by her beloved husband and children.

Mrs. Smith was born Betty A. Meyers in Dayton, Ohio in 1926, the second of four siblings. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio University in 1948 with a degree in History and German and moved to Framingham in that same year. She also earned a masters degree from Framingham State College. In 1951, she married Roger W. Smith and had three children, Michelle, Melinda, and Roger Jr. She became an elementary school teacher and taught second grade for 19 years at the Andrews Elementary School in Holliston until her retirement in 1988.

She is survived by her husband, Roger W. Smith, daughter Michelle, daughter and son-in-law Melinda and Javier Ramirez, son and daughter-in-law Roger Jr. and Elizabeth Smith, grandchildren Isabel and Gregory Ramirez and Abigail and Joshua Smith, her beloved sister Patricia Koogler and her nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at the First Congregational Church in Holliston, MA, and committal prayers will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are from the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston. All are welcome to attend either or both the funeral service and burial. No flowers please. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
