HOPKINTON — Barbara “Jean” McIntyre, 78, of Hopkinton, died unexpectedly Monday, June 12, 2006, at University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.

She was the wife of Francis J. McIntyre, who died in 1990.

Born in Milford, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Downs) Wright.

A lifelong resident of Hopkinton, Mrs. McIntyre was a graduate of Hopkinton High School, Class of 1946, and a graduate of Framingham School of Nursing. She had worked at Holliston Manor Nursing Home, formerly Fair Oaks Nursing Home, and Cushing Hospital, from where she retired.

An excellent pianist, she played for several groups, most recently for the singing group at Brampton Circle and at the Hopkinton Senior Center functions. She had been an active volunteer at the Hopkinton Senior Center and served on the Hopkinton Council on Aging board of directors for many years, was a volunteer driver and the site manager for the S.M.O.C. Nutrition Program at the Hopkinton Senior Center.

She leaves her sons, Francis J. McIntyre and his wife, Donna, of Hopkinton, Brian J. McIntyre of Hopkinton and Michael J. McIntyre and his wife, Joan, of Taunton; her daughter, Patty J. McIntyre and her husband, Tom Barnett, of Richmond, Maine; a brother, William D. Wright and his wife, June, of Hopedale; a brother-in-law, Stuart Merrifield of Hopkinton; a sister-in-law, Beverly McIntyre; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Donald, Charles, Malcolm and John Wright and Doris Merrifield.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 17, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, Hopkinton.

Burial in St. John’s Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours are Friday, June 16, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Chesmore Funeral Home (www.chesmorefuneralhome.com), 57 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton.
