Barbara Heard Brown, 85, of Holliston, passed away Friday, February 19, 2017. Born in Natick, she was the daughter of the late Margaret M. (Murtagh) and George E. Heard. She was the loving wife of the late Richard F. Brown.
Barbara was a graduate of Emmanuel College, Boston. She was a dedicated and caring Third Grade Teacher for 40 years at Brown Elementary School in Natick where she received the Distinguished Educators Award. In 1993, the Brown School Library was dedicated and named the Barbara Brown Library in honor of her 40 years of service. She was loved by many children and parents. Barbara was a refined, unassuming and a gentle lady. She enjoyed her time volunteering at the Holliston Pantry Shelf. Barbara and Dick enjoyed many European Trips during their summer vacations from teaching.
She is survived by her niece Joanne M. Smith; her nephew Richard F. Smith and his wife Martha Shea Smith, a great niece, Meagan M. Smith, great nephew, Benjamin Shea Smith and a great-great nephew Bennett Lee. She also leaves behind numerous close and caring friends, including those from her neighborhood and church.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 24th from 9:30 -10:30am at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com. A Mass will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston at 11:00am with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in Dover. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Clare Monastery, 920 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130 and the Holliston Pantry Shelf, 23 Water St., Holliston, MA, 01746
