Hopkinton – Alden E. Rice, 79, died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at the Westborough
HealthCare Center.
He was the husband of Dorenda (Stewart) Rice. They had been married for 61 years.
Born in Woodville, he was the son of the late Vernon and Mary (Bigelow) Rice. Mr. Rice
retired in 1985 from Bay State Abrasives in Westborough where he had worked for 45
years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in W.W.II in the South Pacific.
He was a former member of the Woodville Rod and Gun Club and had been an avid golfer
and hunter.
Beside his wife he is survived by his son; Joel Rice of Woodville, daughter; Ethel Temple
and her husband Carl of Westborough, brother; Wendell Rice of spring Hill, Florida,
sisters; Dorothy Pickard of Marion, SC and Florence Stewart of Woodville, 5
grandchildren and two great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, under the direction of the Chesmore Funeral Home, 57 Hayden Rowe
St., Hopkinton, will be private. Burial will take place in the family lot in Evergreen
Cemetery, Woodville.
