Alan J. Denman Jr. 91, of Holliston, passed away peacefully at Mass General Brigham Newton Campus on August 4, 2024, after a brief illness. Born October 2, 1932, in Newark, New Jersey, Alan was the son of the late Alan J. Denman, Sr. and Susanne (Morris) Denman. He was the husband of the late Janet (Wilckens) Denman for 62 years and is survived by his three children; Jeffrey (Elizabeth) of Walpole, MA, Craig (Lorraine) of Holliston, MA, and Julie (Daniel) of Medway, MA. He also leaves behind his brother David Denman (Marianne) of N. Ft. Myers, FL, and his sister Susanne Evans (Lee) of New Providence, NJ, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Alan spent his formative years residing in Maplewood, New Jersey and was a 1950 graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood. In 1952, he was drafted during the Korean War and was deployed with the 561st Military Police Company in occupied Otsu, Japan where he attained the rank of corporal. After his service, he was employed by the Hammond Map and Publishing Company of Maplewood, NJ. He eventually became sales manager for the Northeast Region and Canada and was transferred to Massachusetts in 1961. After 25 years with Hammond, he worked in sales for Concept, Inc. and Sperry Hutchinson, Inc. He was then employed at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Framingham, MA for ten years where he served on the Quality Council as well. In his retirement, he worked at the W. A. Wilde Company of Holliston, Holliston Hardware, and was a runner for HUB Insurance and Shea Insurance in town. He also served as the Umpire-in-Chief for Holliston Little League, was in the Men’s Bowling League, and was a member of the Jaycees. He loved people and derived great satisfaction in helping and supporting others. Alan steadfastly worked and labored by any means to support his family, especially during difficult economic times.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holliston on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow with military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holliston. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St., Holliston. A gathering of family and friends will take place following burial at Father Haley Hall at St. Mary’s Church, 8 Church St., Holliston, MA 01746. Donations in Alan’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. stjude.org
