Agnes Elisabeth Kovacs wife of the late Alexander J. Kovacs passed away at home in Holliston surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Friday May 24th, 2024. She was born to Anna (Vanko) and Károly Fister of Hatvan, Hungary into a family of 14 children.

She survived WWII, Soviet communist occupation and the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. At only 19 years of age and with child, she followed her Husband to freedom through fields and forests across the Austrian border and then onto the United States of America. Her deep faith and immense love for her family gave her the strength and courage to build a new life over 4000 miles away. After nearly 10 years she was granted amnesty so that she could visit her family in Hungary.

She and her husband raised four children, built a business and lived a story that inspired us all. After her husband’s death in 1996 she continued to be the glue that held the family together. She had an unwavering love for our Lord and Savior and this was reflected in her boundless love to all those she knew especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Agnes was a faithful member of Saint Mary’s parish for over 50 years. She loved her home, church, and spending time with family and friends. She was a fabulous cook often hosting Thursday night dinner’s for her large extended family. Christmas and Easter were her favorite Holidays to host because her whole family was together. She enjoyed dressing elegantly regardless of the event, be it her grandchildren’s grandparent day, soccer game, opera, theater or dinner out. She also enjoyed quiet time watching the birds from her porch and EWTN and Hallmark channels. Our loving and faithful mother was blessed with a very full life and made an indelible impression on all of those who knew and loved her. We will miss her immensely.

She is survived by four children, Robert Kovacs and his wife, Natalia, Agnes McKinney, Peter Kovacs and his wife, Pamela, and Steven Kovacs and his wife, Amy. She also leaves behind a brother, Jozsef Fister and his wife, Anikó; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Kristina, Patrick, Christopher, Matthew, Benjamin, Allison, Alex, Andrew, Gregory and Dániel; and four great- grandchildren, Henry, Amara, Cecilia, and Eleanor. She is predeceased by one grandchild, Jesse and her siblings;Edit, Erzsébet, Tiborc, Károly, Istvan, Gyula, Lajos, Ildikó, Ákos, Zsolt, Margit, and Kinga.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church of Holliston. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lustgarten Foundation, lustgarten.org

Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston
