WALTER W. “BRUD” ROBBINS (94)

Walter Robbins of Hopkinton passed away Tuesday, February 16,2016 surrounded by his loving family at Beaumont Rehabilitation Center in Westborough. He was the son of the late Walter and Grace (Spinney) Robbins. For over 67 years he was the loving and devoted husband of Claire L. Robbins who passed away in April of 2015.

Walter graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1939 where he played and captained with the Stonethrowers football team. He worked at Ashland Chemical Company as a dye chemist assistant from 1939 until 1942 when he joined the U.S. Army.

In the military, Walter served as Staff Sgt. with Troop D of the 90th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron Division in England, Germany, France and Austria during The Battle of the Bulge.
He received numerous accolades including the Combat Infantryman Badge, a Good Conduct Medal and various campaign ribbons.

He went on to work for Dennison Mfg. Co. in Framingham for over 39 years. Upon retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling the East Coast in their motor home as well as spending time with family and friends.

Walter is survived by four children, Linda Morales and her husband Bill of Hopkinton, Deborah Robbins of Hopkinton, Gary Robbins and his wife Laura of New Boston, NH, Bonnie Wright and her husband Greg of Hopkinton; his brother, Raymond Robbins and his wife Lenita of Hanover, NH, his sister-in-law, Agnes Penney of Hopkinton, his brother-in-law, Charles Garbarino of Ashland; as well as 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandsons. He is predeceased by his son, John W. Robbins Sr. and his siblings, Virginia Hankinson, Grace (Eleanor) Welch, and Marjorie Hall.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 20 from 11 to 2 at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, February 27th at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. The family would like to recognize the staff of Beaumont for the care given to Walter and a special thank you to the VNA and Hospice of Greater Milford.
