Hopkinton – Francis “Buzz” W. Cady, 87, died March 13, 2006 at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham.
He was the husband of Helen (Fair) Cady, they had been married for 63 years.
Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Flaherty) Cady. He was a lifelong resident of Hopkinton.
A veteran of the U. S. Army he served in WWII in the Pacific on the frontline as a gunnery sgt and scouted the battlefields in Guam. Mr. Cady had worked for the Quabin and Boston Aqueduct as a “cager” working with elevations and explosives; he had also been a foreman for Seaman and Cobb Thread Mill.
His career also included building homes and he was a talented finish carpenter.
Mr. Cady was the founder of the Hopkinton Little League and was also a founder and builder of Carrigan Park in Hopkinton. He was a 3rd baseman for the Hopkinton Softball League, quarterback for the Hopkinton Stone Throwers Football team. He and his wife were the first couple to be inducted into the Hopkinton Sports Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, William F. Cady of Upton and daughter, Ann C. Raymond and her husband, Robert, of Enfield, NH; grandchildren, Dawn Page, Debra Green, Jonathan and Julie Raymond, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The funeral will be held Saturday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 57 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton. The Rev. Ernest Batten will officiate. Burial will follow in Mr. Auburn Cemetery in Hopkinton.
Calling hours will be held Friday, March 17 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Hopkinton Ambulance Fund, 73 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748
